Welcome to the Attari Lab
Our lab is dedicated to solving problems related to human behavior, resource use, and climate change. The work done at the lab has strong links to environmental and cognitive science. Our lab is located on the 4th floor - 440 A O’Neill.
We do not have any openings for PhD students at this time.

Shahzeen is a scientist-engineer who is hopeful, open, an immigrant, a feminist, a brown person, a former Muslim, a sci-fi lover, a spicy food addict, and happiest in nature and on long hikes – especially with Savannah. She loves learning, be it science or about people’s lives and stories.

Grace is a first year graduate student at O’Neill and is pursuing a Masters of Public Affairs with concentrations in Environmental Policy & Natural Resource Management and Energy Policy. She previously interned at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at O’Neill. Grace graduated with a B.S. in Public Affairs from O’Neill in May 2023 and is eager to continue her education and learn more about energy, sustainability, and the environment. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends and going for walks on campus.

Ty is a Cox Research Scholar and an undergrad student at the O’Neill school studying environmental science. He cares deeply about solving environmental crises and hopes to make a large impact on saving the planet, particularly in the realm of renewable energy and sustainability. In his free time Ty likes to both watch and play basketball, hang out with his friends, and listen to music.

Savannah is a hound dog with big melty brown eyes and super soft ears. She lives to chase chipmunks and squirrels, although has yet to catch one. She flies through the woods on hikes, and has a talent of spotting timber rattlesnakes. She also lazes around the lab. Lick. Snuggle.

Teaching students about the drinking water system

Shahzeen Attari, Kelsey Hinton, Nick Posawatz, Kerry Neil, and Carissa Knox led this event based off of the drinking water systems thinking project at the lab.

























Phenomenal event with about 500-600 people thirsty to learn about climate change and political change, all with a 122 foot Titanosaur!

Grace Weiler is an undergraduate in the College of Arts & Sciences studying biology and chemistry. She has interests in sustainability, composting, and marine conservation. She has especially enjoyed educating children on the importance of protecting our national parks.

She has 7 years of policy experience working in the government of Mongolia and consulting for the UN. In her free time, she enjoys playing tennis and running.

Sarah Pritchett - is an undergraduate studying Environmental and Sustainability Studies. She is interested in environmental law/policy and organizing around climate issues locally and abroad. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, painting, and doing crossword puzzles!

Alora Cain Masters student at O’Neill. She loves learning and is very passionate about educating and motivating others to act pro-environmentally. She believes in leaving people and places better than you found them and hopes that research will help her do just that. She enjoys nature, traveling, painting, and dancing.

Stephen Bessasparis has previously interned at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and E3 Consulting.
Prior to graduate school, Stephen served for seven years in the U.S. Army as an Infantry and Military Intelligence Officer, and is still active in the Army Reserve. He graduated from Bucknell University in 2014 with a B.A. in International Relations and a minor in Philosophy.
Outside of work, Stephen enjoys running, reading science fiction, playing with his girlfriend's cat, and attempting to convince his friends to try his new board games.

Joe Kantenbacher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sustainability & Environment at the University of South Dakota. His research is centered on pro-environmental behavior and the connections between sustainable consumption and well-being. He likes getting outdoors when he can and playing tabletop games when he can't.

Anna Dubois - is an undergraduate at the O'Neill School studying environmental management. She is passionate about environmental psychology, making the world a better place, and motivating others in the pursuit of climate justice. In her free time, she likes to read, water her plants, and drink lots of coffee!
Matthew Eitel undergraduate at O'Neill School. His research revolves around the intersection of climate change, national security, and issue framing. He is also a passionate watcher of TED talks, collector of vinyl records, and Atlanta sports fan.

Deidra Miniard is a PhD student at the O’Neill School. Her research examines how people think about energy resources and energy policies to understand how to motivate support for decarbonizing the energy system. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, drinking wine, and rescuing shelter cats.
